Here is what is happening.

A push moves something away from your hand; a pull brings it towards you. Forces can change motion, but the surface matters too. A toy may move differently on a smooth table and a cloth. Change one thing at a time if you want to compare.

Your little investigation

What you need

A large safe toy and a cloth on a low clear table; an adult can help.

On a clear low table, gently push a toy away and pull it back.
Draw arrows for both directions. Name the push and the pull.
Try the same gentle push over a cloth. Describe the difference without claiming an exact force.
