Look closely at a plant without plucking a single leaf.

Here is what is happening.
Many familiar plants have roots, stems and leaves. Roots take up water and help anchor the plant. Stems support leaves and transport water. Green leaves use light to help make food. Plants differ, so observe rather than assume they all look alike.

What you need
A nearby plant or a plant picture. Do not taste or handle unknown plants.
Look for a stem and leaves. Roots may be hidden underground.
Draw or describe two features you can actually observe.
Compare with a second plant. Notice one similarity and one difference.
