01 / UNDERSTAND

Here is what is happening.

Observation means noticing carefully. You can describe a bird’s colour, shape and action without knowing its name. “I saw a small bird hop twice” is more precise than “all birds hop”. Keep a comfortable distance and leave nests and animals alone.

Pause. Make the idea your own.

Explain one idea to a partner, draw it or write it in your own words. Which part is an observation, an example or a question?

You can use a home language. No need to share personal experiences or finish everything in one sitting.
02 / MAKE IT YOUR OWN

Your little investigation

What you need

Paper and a pencil, or a partner to talk with. Drawing and speaking are welcome.

  1. From a safe place with an adult, observe a bird or use a bird picture.

  2. Draw three things you can actually notice.

  3. Separate one observation from one question you still have.

03 / CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING
