Same clock, different daylight
Does sunrise always arrive at the same clock time?
Take your time. Speak, draw or write your answers.
Here is what is happening.
Daylight duration can vary with location and season. Clock time is a human system for recording time, while sunrise depends on Earth’s position and rotation. Use a supplied timetable to compare; there is no need to wake early or observe the Sun directly.
Pause. Make the idea your own.
Explain one idea to a partner, draw it or write it in your own words. Which part is an observation, an example or a question?
You can use a home language. No need to share personal experiences or finish everything in one sitting.Your little investigation
What you need
Paper and a pencil, or a partner to talk with. Drawing and speaking are welcome.
Example A: sunrise 6 am, sunset 6 pm. Find the daylight duration.
Example B: sunrise 7 am, sunset 5 pm. Compare.
Label the times as invented examples, not your town’s actual schedule.
How long is daylight in example B?
