A few successes do not prove a rule works always.
Here is what is happening.
A universal claim says a rule works for every allowed case. To test “every even number is divisible by four”, try examples beyond the first convenient ones. Four and eight fit, but six does not. One valid counterexample disproves this universal claim.
Pause. Make the idea your own.
Explain one idea to a partner, draw it or write it in your own words. Which part is an observation, an example or a question?

Choose one counterexample and explain it with a remainder or grouping.
Rewrite the claim so it becomes true without saying more than you know.
