Why do careful measurements differ?
A ruler has limits; so does a conclusion.
Here is what is happening.
Measurement uncertainty reflects limits in instruments and methods. Repeated readings help reveal variation but do not automatically remove a consistently misaligned zero. Reporting many decimal places does not create precision the instrument lacks. Describe the method and the limits alongside your result.
Pause. Make the idea your own.
Explain one idea to a partner, draw it or write it in your own words. Which part is an observation, an example or a question?
You can use a home language. No need to share personal experiences or finish everything in one sitting.Your little investigation
Paper and a pencil, or a partner to talk with. Drawing and speaking are welcome.
Example lengths are 10.1, 10.2 and 10.1 cm. Find the range.
Imagine every reading began 0.5 cm past zero. Would repeating alone fix it?
Write a report stating both the observed variation and possible alignment problem.
