Create within a limit
A constraint can focus an idea.
Take your time. Speak, draw or write your answers.
Here is what is happening.
A design brief states a purpose, audience and constraints. Designing a library sign with only two colours and a small space requires choices. Evaluate it against the brief, not only personal taste. A beautiful sign that cannot be read or understood has missed part of its job.
Pause. Make the idea your own.
Explain one idea to a partner, draw it or write it in your own words. Which part is an observation, an example or a question?
You can use a home language. No need to share personal experiences or finish everything in one sitting.Your little investigation
What you need
Paper and a pencil, or a partner to talk with. Drawing and speaking are welcome.
Write a brief for a quiet-reading sign with two colours and ten words at most.
Sketch three different arrangements before choosing one.
Ask a reader to explain the sign and record one useful revision.
What should guide evaluation?
