Here is what is happening.

Visual communication uses hierarchy, spacing, contrast and words to guide attention. A symbol alone may be unfamiliar. Combine a clear label with the symbol, and do not use colour as the only way to convey meaning.

02 / MAKE IT YOUR OWN

Your little investigation

What you need

Paper and pencil. Design a library direction sign in Hindi and English.

Choose one message and make it the most prominent element.
Add an arrow and both language labels with space around them.
Ask someone what it means without explaining first. Revise what confused them.
