Together does not mean because
More umbrellas appear on rainy days. Do umbrellas cause rain?
Here is what is happening.
Correlation describes variables changing together. It does not by itself establish causation. A third factor may influence both, or the direction may differ from the story suggested. Ask about timing, alternative explanations and how observations were collected before treating a pattern as a causal result.
Pause. Make the idea your own.
Explain one idea to a partner, draw it or write it in your own words. Which part is an observation, an example or a question?
You can use a home language. No need to share personal experiences or finish everything in one sitting.Your little investigation
Paper and a pencil, or a partner to talk with. Drawing and speaking are welcome.
Write the two variables: rain and number of open umbrellas.
Draw arrows for two possible causal stories; mark the more plausible one and explain.
Invent a third-variable example, such as hot weather affecting two separate choices.
