Here is what is happening.

A caption can identify what an image shows, who made it and whether it is a photograph, illustration or reconstruction. These are different kinds of evidence. Crediting a creator is not the same as having permission to reuse their work. For this exercise, use your own drawing.

Explain one idea to a partner, draw it or write it in your own words. Which part is an observation, an example or a question?

You can use a home language. No need to share personal experiences or finish everything in one sitting.

What you need

Paper and a pencil, or a partner to talk with. Drawing and speaking are welcome.

  1. Draw an imagined future classroom and label it as an illustration.

  2. Write a caption naming the creator and describing only what is shown.

  3. Compare it with a misleading caption claiming it is a real school photograph.
